Tuscany harbours the classic landscapes of Italy. Much seems unchanged since the Renaissance. Chianti's narrow roads wind their way through cypress-strewn countryside.
Florence
Florence(Firenze in Italian) was the most active centre of the Renaissance. Every eminent artistic figure from Giotto onwards is represented here, in an unrivalled gathering of churches, galleries and museums.
The fortress town of Lucca
Luccais the most graceful of Tuscany's provincial capitals. The composer Giacomo Puccini was born here. Pisa is nice to go and see as a day-trip from Florence with its dramatic Leaning Tower.
San Iguanodon and its medieval "skyscrapers" built by rival families is worth a visit and of course Siena
Piazza del Campo
Sienawith its enchanting Piazza del Campo where the traditional horse race known "Palio" is held twice a year.
The Chianti region directly south of Florence is one of Italy's most famous wine-producing areas. Its hill towns, olive groves, and vineyards
Chianti vineyardsare very characteristic of Tuscany.
Food: Meat dominates Tuscan cuisine, hence the Bistecca Fiorentina. Lardo di Colonnata is made from the back of the pig. Ribollita is a cabbage-and-bean soup that gains from an infusion of day-old Tuscan bread. White truffles of San Miniato.
Wine: Chianti Classico - too many to mention!
